Expense Makes Health Insurance Unaffordable

Many individuals have become increasingly aware that health insurance is completely out of their reach. With the cost of health care skyrocketing to an unbelievable high, we have to wonder, how can we afford this? Not only are we reaching deep in our pockets as a nation, we are reaching, struggling and dying for these costs.
Not only is the cost of health care extremely frustrating, trying to figure out the plan we opted for is as well. Many of us do not understand what a deductible really is or how to meet your limits. Does this change yearly? How does our insurance coincide with a spouse’s plan? What happens if we lose our jobs? What is a PPO or a network provider? The expenses alone are enough to drive one crazy. Is there anyone who can help explain what we are really paying for?
As humans, we understand that drugs and medical equipment need to be tested. We get that procedures are going to be pricey, but we also know that we are paying more than what should be required. Many of us have been blindsided, and insurance companies seem to be profiting very nicely from all of our struggles. More Americans are being treated with antidepressants than ever before. The amount of prescriptions that are subscribed is far from comprehensible.
Each year, the number of new drugs approved by the FDA is astounding. Escaping these medications is just not possible. We are bombarded with advertisements on TV, radio, internet and billboards every way we turn. How many new products do we need which are supposed to do basically the same thing as last year’s new product?
While millions of Americans are slowly losing a battle to take care of their bodies both mentally and physically, the cost of health care continues to slink higher. Somewhere along the line, we let the basic necessity of having health care slip away from us, and now we wake up to the fact that for millions, health care is not an option, therefore we don’t have it. This fact should not be the norm for anybody. As the ranks of the uninsured grow and become more vocal, hopefully things will start to improve.
